Tahiti Day #7: Taking It Easy on Our
Last Full Day in French Polynesia

February 23, 2019

TAHITI ISLAND, French Polynesia – Mom and I walked on the beach, watched locals playing volleyball and petanque in the beachside park, and read by the pool during our final full day here on Tahiti.

I slept past noon at Relais Fenua guesthouse in Paea, 18 km (11 miles) southwest of Papeete.

Ahhh, no one throwing me overboard at an absurdly early hour today! Online, then lunch at Snack PK18. I ate Cantonese rice again (we ate lunch there yesterday too). Next we had a nice stroll on Mahana Beach.

After our beach walk, picked up some groceries, then read by the pool, I watched sunset at 6:28 p.m.

Blog writing, dinner on our patio, and more blog work. Then checked the flight load for PPT-SFO tomorrow: 7 seats open in Polaris Business Class and 31 in Economy Class. Mom and I are #2&3 on the standby list.

We had been anxious about being able to get on the first United Airlines flight out after our 12-night Oceania Marina cruise around French Polynesia ended yesterday. United began service to Tahiti last October. The route operates only three times a week. But we learned of our salvation a couple days ago. United upgauged the equipment from the scheduled Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner to a larger B787-9 with 33 more seats.

Did some more blog work and watched TiVo on my phone before bed at 1:38 a.m.

Tomorrow we’ll be relaxing here at the guesthouse again before the overnight flight to San Francisco and then onward to Orlando.
