Flying BCN-LIS on a TAP Airbus A320

I’m on my way to Senegal! With Uber unavailable in Barcelona, I took a city bus and then Aerobus to BCN airport, where flew on a TAP Air Portugal Airbus A320 to Lisbon (LIS).

Earlier today I disembarked Costa Pacifica after a 17-night Caribbean and trans-Atlantic cruise from La Romana, Dominican Republic. I had planned on taking an Uber from the Port of Barcelona to BCN airport, but was stunned to find out Uber is no longer available in Barcelona. Instead I took the Cruise Bus out of the port, and was dropped off about 10:15 a.m.

Now I needed to find a way to the airport by mass transit, since I assumed a taxi would be too expensive. I checked Google Maps on my phone. Going by subway would take forever; Google Maps suggested taking Bus D20 and then the Aerobus instead.

Disembarking Costa Pacifica in Barcelona;
Surprised to Find Uber Doesn’t Operate Anymore

My 17-night Caribbean and trans-Atlantic cruise came to an end this morning as I debarked Costa Pacifica, then ran into trouble getting to BCN airport for my trip to Senegal after discovering Uber is no longer operating here.

Uber suspended its services in late January in Barcelona because of new regulations. Now I’m going to have to find out how to get to BCN airport by public transportation. Fortunately I’m not in a big rush as my flight to Lisbon (and then connecting to Dakar, Senegal) isn’t until 12:30 p.m. But this is really irritating. I expected to be at the airport by now, yet I’ve barely made it out of the seaport.

Tenerife Island: Frustration Getting
Online after 6 Days at Sea

Stepped on land for the first time in a week, enduring numerous headaches trying to get online to accomplish many West Africa planning tasks. Did not go on a shore excursion today since Mom and I were here just a few months ago.

Land ahoy! At 3:37 a.m. we were already only 31 miles from Tenerife Island, Canary Islands, Spain, after an uneventful and mostly smooth six-day Atlantic Ocean crossing from St. Lucia. Tenerife, population 890,000, is the most populous of the seven principal Canary Islands.

Today Marks 1 Year of Global Nomadism

Today marks one year of being a global nomad! I moved out of my apartment here in the nation’s capital Jan. 17, 2018, put my belongings in a storage unit, and set off to see more of the world. In this first year, I made it to seven new countries – Belarus, Cape Verde, Kiribati, Moldova, Nauru, Solomon Islands, and Ukraine – bringing my total to 127. I also visited one de-facto country, Transnistria (a breakaway state in eastern Moldova), bringing my de-facto count to three. Add the 15 inhabited territories I’ve previously been to, and 2018 brought my total number of distinct places to 145 – so I’m 62% of the way on my Quest for 234.

8 Trips Planned So Far for 2019

As a global nomad, figuring out where to go next – and then planning all the details — consumes a lot of my time. When I’m not traveling, I’m usually spending at least a bit of every day working on plans for trips ahead. I have most of my travel for the first half of this year plotted out, plus a long trip in December. Here’s a sneak peek:
